DIY Beauty Secrets – The Oil Cleansing Method

Hello, everyone! Lina here. 🙂

Well, today’s post might be a little controversial – at first – for many of you who are reading these words for the first time: I’m 22 years old. I have a very oily skin on my “T-Zone” and normal-to-dry on the rest of my face. My skin is really sensitive and I clean it with oil. Wa-wa-wait! Oil in oily skin? YES!!

You are probably thinking that it makes no sense adding more oil to an oily skin, but stick with me until the end of this post and I might change your opinion. Then you will choose for yourself if this method is worth or not.

When I was 15 years old I started to take care of my skin with skin care cosmetics for one simple reason: I needed to control all that sebum production of my skin, like if there was something going terribly wrong with it. I changed some times between some pharmacy brands because none of them were really working for me. They removed the oil off my skin? Yes, but in the wrong way, by stripping the oil out of it, making my cells going crazy and producing much more oil to overcompensate the loss of moisture that those cleansers caused to it. And that is something that might happen to a lot of you because the cosmetics industry makes us believe that in order to control our oily skin we must wash and exfoliate with soaps, mousses, and harsh chemicals. It might work for some days but in a few weeks the blemishes, pimples, and blackheads will come back. And it’s frustrating, exhausting, expensive and sometimes painful.

So let’s start with the basics: oil when used to massage your skin, dissolves oil. Our skin’s oil production occurs naturally simply because we need it. It isn’t an evil force we need to fight against, on the contrary, learning to work WITH our skin will bring us a moisturized, protected, clear and dewy complexion.

The oils I recommend for cleaning are 3 Carrier Oils:

  1. Jojoba Oil
  2. Sweet Almond Oil
  3. Coconut Oil (Virgin)

The basics of this method is mixing 2 oils, preferably Carrier Oils, both with anti-inflammatory and nurturing properties. When you massage your Blend onto your skin, this process will open your pores, allowing all the oil that has hardened full of impurities to be dissolved and removed. After that, you need to remove all the dead skin – I always use a very wet washcloth for that – out of your face, neck, and chest. The last step is moisturizing. It can even be with one of the oils you used in your blending. 1-3 drops should be enough for face, neck, and chest. And there you go!

Why should I use Carrier Oils?

The Carrier Oils, like I explained here, are extracted from the fatty parts of a plant and because of that they are really rich in fatty acids, like saturated fat, linoleic and oleic acid. Our body doesn’t produce this kind of fat but still, they are necessary for the health of our cell membranes. And that results in a healthy skin.

Why Jojoba, Sweet Almond, and Coconut Oil?

Jojoba acts a natural anti-inflammatory and it’s said its composition, which is waxy, to be similar to our skin’s natural sebum. Sweet Almond is a multi-purpose oil, also possesses anti-inflammatory properties and it’s high in fatty acids. They are both great for dry and oily acne prone skin, helping soothing wrinkles, uneven skin tone, age spots, psoriasis, and eczema. Coconut Oil has that inebriating tropical aroma and it’s highly moisturizing for the skin and lips. It can be very well used alone, a little amount should be enough. I should mention, though, that coconut oil isn’t recommended for those of you with acne-prone skin. If you’d like a post explaining why just let me know.

So, tell me: did I manage to catch your attention and give you a new wonderful perspective on how to take care of your skin without damaging it? If your answer is YES, which one of these oils would you like to try? Let me know!

Many kisses and see you soon! 🙂
